The Reluctant Homeschooler

Is it just me or have the past 6 months been like something out of a Will Smith movie? A seemingly uncontrolled virus originating from foreign lands, conspiracy theories centered around government control, staticical falsities, vaccines containing micro chips, wild animals taking over abandoned cities, world wide lockdowns, raids, seperated families, fights over toilet paper, and nation wide yeast shortages. Crazy I tell you! Definitly not how anyone thought the year would go.

With all of this in mind, and more importantly the severity of COVID we have decided to homeschool my oldest who is 4 for SK (Senior Kindergarten). Actually decided isn’t at all accurate. My father in law has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. He is obviously extremely vulnerabe and if my son went to school he would not be able to see Papa at all. Therefore, homeschooling him wasn’t a choice that we made, it was made for me. Despite the circumstances around it, it is nice to have a decision made and the peace that goes with it. (Decision faitgue is REAL my friend.)

The good news in all of this is that I am a former children’s pastor and therefore love curriculum, preping and teaching. The bad news is that I have a chronic illness and have to take each day or even each hour at a time. Obviously this will affect our homeshool.

In the spirit of transparency and realizing the need to support one another I have decided to chronical the process of getting us prepared for homeschooling as well as some initial ideas of how homeschooling and life in general can run as smooth as possible.

Please join me as I try to figure things out. Feel free to utilize the things that work for you and perhaps learn fom my mistakes. We have the power to uplift and learn from each other and create a community that will only benefit our children and ourselves.
